The Dublin Marathon organisers and Dublin City Council have announced that the start and finish location of the Irish Life Dublin Marathon will be in the city centre on Sunday, October 27th. The Irish Life Dublin Marathon will start on Leeson Street Lower and finish on Mount Street Upper, remaining within the Dublin 2 area and ensuring the route will run through the city centre streets. Jim Aughney, Race Director, said, “We are thrilled to confirm that the Irish Life Dublin Marathon will be on the streets of Dublin’s City Centre. Running the marathon is a momentous occasion for participants. Being in the heart of the capital city makes that moment even more special for them and their families and friends who come out to support them”. He added, “We must also ensure a safe experience for everyone involved. We have worked closely with Dublin City Council on finalising the start and finish location. We are grateful for their support and look forward to making this event a success.”

The team also surpassed the Atlanta 96 record of 3 Olympics golds in a games, including both a first Olympic medal and Olympic gold medal in gymnastics as well as a first gold for the men in swimming. Ireland guaranteed a podium finish on seven consecutive days: the opening Monday (McSharry, swimming), then Tuesday (Wiffen, swimming), followed by Wednesday (this was the day Harrington secured at least a bronze medal in boxing), then Thursday (Lynch & Doyle, rowing), followed by McCarthy and O’Donovan’s gold in rowing on Friday. The streak continued on Saturday with McClenaghan’s gold in gymnastics and was rounded off with Daniel Wiffen securing a second podium finish in the pool on Sunday.

ANOTHER WEATHER WARNING has been issued for the whole country as temperatures are set to drop below zero tonight. A Status Yellow ice warning for Ireland will kick in at 8pm and will remain in place until 9am tomorrow. Met Éireann has warned that it will become icy in many areas tonight, especially in Ulster and Leinster. This may lead to hazardous road conditions, along with slippery paths and cycleways.

It was an explosive night at the Baftas for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, picking up seven awards in total, including Best Film and Best Director. Cillian Murphy won the leading actor category at Bafta awards for the biopic Oppenheimer. Accepting the trophy he said: “Oh boy, holy moly, thank you very, very much Bafta.” At a post ceremony interview, the winning actor was asked if he wanted to say hello to anybody at home in Ireland, which Murphy responded “Hi to everybody. Grianán of Aileach is one of County Donegal’s most recognisable landmarks Earlier this month the Irish government’s Office of Public Works (OPW) introduced new opening hours at An Grianán of Aileach.
